FAMILY
Connecting the dots. Family affects Culture, Architecture, Poverty, Religion, Racism, Globalization, etc.
I gradually began to formulate three basic components for energy to tap on in our Barrio meetings. These
three became the foundation of our success. The three were: 1) family, 2) internal pride, and 3) the use
of hands. These three elements: Family, Pride, and Hands would be at the core of every action we took. P. 124
José’s family lived behind the window on the right. His three older brothers were in jail. What does the
future represent for José? P. 26
One hundred percent same family ownership for hundreds of years.” Its erosion in the inside space seems to coincide with the erosion of family connectivity as will be seen further on.
By then the family-oriented use of open spaces, left in the center of the block was altered over the years in shape and use. Its erosion in the inside space seems to coincide with the erosion of family connectivity as will be seen further on. (Architecture)
What elements led to the unification of so many cultures, allowing a country so diversified to maintain unity and become a growing world power? One detail, the French men up north in Canada, and the Spanish men down south in what is now Latin America, came mostly without wife or children. Not so the English, they left Europe with their families, to settle in another continent. The power of the family. This difference had long-lasting effects. Family, religion, and work ethics. P.69
Connecting the dots.
Over thousands of years, the evolution of cities creates cultures different from one another. Where do their distinctions begin to take form? What factors are real contributors to culture or just passing trends leaving no mark? What personalities or groups make a dent, not on history, but on culture? Moses, Alexander, Gandhi, Caesar, Jefferson, Aristotle, the Rotarians? What elements shape a culture and what elements are results of a culture? Such as in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Zapoteca, Persia, and others? How about religions? Slavery? Volunteerism? Or does culture result from adaptation to agriculture, mountains, oceans, climate, survival skills, language, proximities, and why do some cultures flourish, while others flounder? Cultures in the Amazon River regions or in mixed Mozambique. Or why did some first flourished and later floundered, like ancient Greek and Egyptian cultures. We have seen innovative technology, such as gun power, create and dissolve entire empires, and with it, cultures. Intriguing! Not one issue alone provides a simplistic answer to the truth. P. 152
Positive peer pressure and family taught values lead to the reduction in high crime rates in big cities, away from the peer pressure nurtured by gangs and the poverty pimps by bad movies and video games. P. 112
The Republican Party fails in simple things. For example, why do they not establish a task force to go into low-income neighborhoods and promote and facilitate voting with good, solid and the simple education about the value of the Constitution, and the value of good economic conditions, and value of the family? P. 544
Can we merge a local view of Family, Pride, and Hands with national Economics, Technology, and Legal expertise? P. 509
Displacement and gentrification: In the Barrio, displacement is gentler, the liberal youth displaces the conservative family quietly, but effectively, with help from the City. But here we in the Barrio are about to prove that with fair competition, we all can also work for the longtime residents in a very positive way, as well as new families. Is this a reflection of what could be happening elsewhere in the world?
